You would think that living in Los Angeles, with all the juice cleanses and yoga classes, working out would be a fun activity that everyone enjoys. But… running. Ew.

With the holiday season quickly approaching, all we want to do is drink our Starbucks peppermint lattes, put on fuzzy socks, and turn on Hallmarks 25 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS.

As nice as this sounds, for all those in off seasons for sports or anyone wanting to do a little more exercise than a walk to the kitchen for more marshmallows, I have created a 25 Days of Christmas- Exercise Edition.

The key to the 25 Days of Christmas- Exercise Edition is timing. Working out in the morning on the weekends will help wake you up and have your body feeling good throughout the whole day. However, with school and extracurriculars, it really is hard to find time to workout during the week. Marymount offers training with Coach S. and track pre-season that are convenient ways to get active on campus.

Running is not always the easiest way to get active. However, Los Angeles does not endure too harsh of a winter, so find time to go on a run or easy jog outside. Treadmills are nice, but getting fresh air and running a trail or by the beach is much prettier than staring at the wall of a gym! Motivation is key when working out. After binge watching a whole season of your favorite Netflix show, getting up to workout sounds like the worst idea ever. Change this pattern by motivating your friends! There are so many different hikes all over Los Angeles that you and your friends can take. Do not forget to take your dog along with you!

If the outdoors are not your thing, workout classes should be your go-to. Youtube has a number of six-minute ab workout videos. Finding six minutes before bed or when you wake up is not hard and can help you feel so much better before getting your day started or going to sleep. Los Angeles is a hub of workout fiends for anything you can think of. Soulcycle, Body by Simone, and many other 45 minute exercise classes are difficult to say the least, but the instructor keeps you motivated and the music really does keep you going. Yoga is a fan favorite because although you don’t feel like you are working too many muscles, you are actually working on your core, balance, and mind.

These classes can get pricey, but as long as you are out doing something your body will thank you in the long run!
