Media Impact On Society in the Last Decade

Media has had a significant effect on society in the past years. Not only has social media grown more and more daily with new updates and new ways of communication but so has the availability of news to more and more people. Over the years, media has become more and more advanced allowing people to access information from virtually anywhere in the world. The growth of media has allowed people to interact with one another much easier which is why it has become such an important factor in our lives over the years.

Social media has become one of the main ways of communication allowing people to voice their opinions or share information with others in seconds with the click of a button. Today, due to the rise of social media, people can connect with each other and reform all over the world. As the rise of world communication rose to an all-time high so did the spread of what many like to call “fake news”. Because it became so easy to voice a single opinion to a huge number of people, anyone could now just go online and start saying things for millions of people to hear. The internet now is flooded with multitudes of sites and people whose opinions which they display as facts about the world are flawed. Now, more than ever, people need to use their own thinking to determine whether they think a source is trustworthy or if it is displaying false information. Another example of this is politics. The media has played a huge role in shaping political opinions through the way that the news and social media portray candidates. With the substantial growth of media everywhere, it is important to keep in mind that people are biased and to do one own research in order to uncover what is really the truth. The rise of social media, in my opinion, has been a crucial step forward in our advancement as a society, and although it brings some challenges I believe that it brings many more advantages.
