Last week, fathers and daughters gathered on Senior Lawn to take part of the annual Marymount Father-Daughter Barbecue. The weather was perfect, allowing students and their dads to enjoy burgers and hot dogs under the sunny blue sky. There were plenty of tables on the grass, and everyone had the opportunity to visit their close friends as well as meet new dads and daughters from different classes.

Although the barbecue provides ample time for girls to spend time with their fathers, this outdoor event specifically honors seniors, as it takes place close to the May 1st college decision deadline. Traditionally seniors wear the sweatshirt of their chosen college and, at the end of the lunch, they stand on Cantwell steps to take a class picture. Even if not every senior has committed to a school, the Father-Daughter Barbecue still commemorates everything that the class has accomplished over the past four years.

This event provided a unique break from the workweek for dads and daughters alike, dismissing, at least for a few hours, the busyness of life in favor of family time. The 2016 Father-Daughter Barbecue was certainly a success, infusing the Marymount campus with happiness that will last until next spring.
